During meditation, the thoughts passed through about how complicated we make the art of sitting in silence. From using guided meditations, apps, and timers. You can use those tools and they have their value, but meditation is a simple practice. One that does not require money or gadgets. One that is not a commodity. Like almost everything else however, meditation has become a business The reality is that you have everything you need to start a meditation practice.
All you need is a place to stand, sit, or lay. To close your eyes or maintain a soft gaze. Breathe. Be present and allow the thoughts to come and go.
Meditation is a simple practice with benefits that may not be seen on an MRI immediately. The benefits you can feel immediately. You do not need empirical evidence to support your claim. You know that you have calmed your nervous system, reduced your stress, ignited your third eye, and are teaching your brain resilience.
In this day and age, when metrics and data are required as motivation to change or begin a practice, we have walked away from our most powerful data source, our intuition. Being in touch with self. We are preventing the ability to trust how we feel and what our body and intuition is telling us. The simplicity of knowing what we need. The trust of not needing someone else to tell us what and how to care for ourselves. The confidence of knowing your choices have your best interest in mind.
The practice of meditation allows you to learn how to transform yourself through a simple practice. Sitting with your eyes closed and being present with your breath. Thoughts come and go. Their frequency provides insight on how you feel that day. Some days you may feel your brain relaxing into the feeling you have before sleep. Most days you won’t. Still you show up and you teach yourself that it is okay to come as you are. You trust that you are observing and learning as you go. You are choosing to prioritize self and are learning that you can take care of yourself. You do not need someone to tell you what you need or how to do it. You do not need a guide or a gadget to track your progress. Your guide is within you and the silence allows you to hear them. Your body tells you its impact.
